Flooding is possible - be prepared

Flood alert for Groundwater flooding in upper River Ems Valley

Groundwater is high, close to the surface at the Compton borehole, but falling thirty centimetres each day. Minor groundwater flood impacts are expected to continue, with springs affecting fields, and water on roads including Stoughton main road and the road from East Marden. Groundwater could affect a small number of properties close to the village green Stoughton. Groundwater could affect basements of properties in Walderton too. Bands of intense rainfall are forecast Wednesday and early Thursday morning 02/05/2024. Flood water will affect roads Wednesday and Thursday. Groundwater may slow in its fall at the Compton borehole, and rise a few centimetres in the villages. Isolated showers are possible through to next week. Generally only minor flood impacts are expected. Groundwater will not fall fast and will remain higher than normal, and minor flood impacts could persist until mid May. If you have pumps to help reduce groundwater levels in your property, ensure they are operational. We continue to monitor the levels and forecast. We will update this message by 18:00 03/05/2024
