for Flood alert in force now Upper River Ouse

Flooding is possible - be prepared

The flood alert for the Upper River Ouse remains in force. The level at York Viking recorder is 4.2m and is rising slowly, following recent heavy rainfall and snowmelt. We expect the river Ouse to peak at 4.4 to 4.8m on Thursday night. The Foss Barrier is in operation and flood gates are closed. Please be aware that persistent and heavy rain is forecast until this morning Thursday 21/01/2021. Warnings are in force in the area and flood defences will be operated as required. We expect river levels to rise significantly later this week. Please avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water and visit the GOV.UK website for a 5 day flood forecast. We are closely monitoring the situation and will update this message in 8 hours, or as the situation changes.
