Flooding is possible - be prepared
This alert remains in force due to heavy rainfall on Wednesday and overnight in the Yorkshire Dales. High levels on the River Swale are causing a rise in levels on the lower River Wiske. The area of concern is around the village of Kirby Wiske, and very little rise in levels is expected further up the Wiske or on other becks and streams in the area. The current level of the River Wiske at Kirby Wiske is 3.2m and expected to peak overnight below 3.3m. The current level of the River Swale at Maunby is 5.2m, has peaked, and now falling. River levels around the confluence of the River Wiske and River Swale will remain high on Friday. No significant further rainfall is expected, but we will continue to monitor the situation and will update this message if forecasts change.
