Flood alert for Lower Itchen

The water level in the Lower River Itchen at Bishopstoke is high and rising. In the last 48 hours, 35 mm of rain was recorded at Otterbourne, this is over half a month’s average rainfall and follows months of prolonged wet weather. Today (Thursday 28/03/2024) there will be out of bank flooding affecting Bishopstoke Road Playing Fields and possibly some gardens in Bishopstoke. Water may also affect the top of Duttons Lane and Withy Meadows, Eastleigh. Heavy showers will continue to affect the area over the next 24 hours with a further 30mm possible. Water levels are unlikely to begin to fall until Saturday 30/03/2024 with flood impacts continuing until then. Conditions remain unsettled although less rain is forecast after Friday 29/03/2024. While water levels in the river will begin to reduce, they will remain higher than normal and will be sensitive to any additional rainfall over the next few weeks. Our operational staff will keep the river free of blockages. Please take action to ensure that you can protect your property. This Flood Alert will be updated by 18:00 on 29/03/2024.
