Flooding is possible - be prepared
Water levels in the River Itchen at Winchester are very high. In the last 3 days more than 80mm of rain has been recorded at Otterbourne. This is more than a month’s rain and follows a prolonged wet winter. Most of the river channels through Winchester are flowing at bank full. Tomorrow (Tuesday 18/02/2020) through to Thursday (20/02/2020) further rain is forecast. Rainfall totals are not large, but if they affect Winchester, then it may cause some out of bank flooding at North Walls Recreation Ground and River Park. Impacts, if any, would be relatively minor, but as a precautionary measure, Winchester City Council have installed flood barrier at River Park and Water Lane. With barrier in place, we do not expect property flooding. We are in close liaison with Winchester City Council. The Rec Ground is currently open, but under constant review. Keep away from the river as water is deep and fast flowing. This Flood Alert will be updated by 15:00 on Friday 21/02/2020.
