for Flood alert in force now Groundwater flooding in the Candovers and Old Alresford

Flooding is possible - be prepared

The groundwater level at Preston Candover and in Alresford is high, but it is falling in both locations. At Preston Candover, the current rate of fall is between 1 and 2 cm per day. In Alresford, the current rate of fall is 3 cm per day. Over the next few weeks, groundwater will continue to prevent septic tanks from operating effectively in Old Alresford. In Preston Candover, groundwater will still affect a small number of cellars. Over the next 5 days, the weather should remain fairly dry, and levels will continue to fall. Given the current rate of fall, it will be at least 6 to 8 weeks before groundwater stops causing impacts in the villages. We continue to monitor the forecast. Please ensure any pumps used to protect property can operate. This Flood Alert will be updated by 15:00 on Wednesday 08/04/2020
