for Flood alert in force now Groundwater flooding in the Candovers and Old Alresford

Flooding is possible - be prepared

At Preston Candover, groundwater is high and rising, currently by 0.4m a day. In the last 3 days, 76mm of rain has been recorded at Bishop’s Sutton, which is more than February’s monthly average rainfall. In the next 5 days, groundwater will prevent septic tanks from operating effectively in Old Alresford. Levels need to be much higher than they are now, before they cause cellar flooding in The Candovers and Northington, but we will issue further advice as levels rise. Over the next 4 days, small amounts of rain are expected each day, and levels will continue to increase. We continue to monitor the forecast. We would like communities to prepare for groundwater flood impacts over the next few weeks. This Flood Alert will be updated by 12:00 on Friday 21/02/2020.
