Flooding is possible - be prepared
Large and powerful waves are expected to overtop sea defences as a result of high spring tides and strong winds. The tide will be at its highest tomorrow 22/03/19 reaching 5.76mAOD at 12:00. Flooding to properties/roads and farmland is expected/possible at these times however conditions may apply 2 to 4 hours either side of high tide. Flooding is affecting low lying land, roads and coastal paths at White Lund, Heysham Moss, south Heysham, Potts Corner, Sunderland Point, Thurnham, Cockersands Abbey, Bank Houses, Cockerham, Braides, Cockerham Moss and surrounding areas. Coastal conditions are expected to continue until after high tide at 12:00 on 22/03/19 at Sunderland Point. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are closing flood gates. Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal foot paths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous. This message will be updated tomorrow morning 22/03/19 or as the situation changes.
